Amazon is clearly thinking beyond simple smart speakers for its Alexa virtual banana. A new study from Bloomberg details some of the concepts that the company is patently looking into right at present, with some more likely to see the light of mean solar day than others.

The nigh interesting of these is what can all-time be described as a supersized Echo Prove. Bloomberg says that the device, codenamed Hoya, will pack a xv-inch display that can either be wall mounted or held in identify with a stand. But with the largest Echo Show currently coming in at x inches, this would exist a substantial device, making even the imposing 12.9-inch iPad Pro look pocket-sized by comparing.

  • Alexa vs. Google Assistant: Which smart banana wins?
  • The all-time smart domicile devices in 2021
  • Plus: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Is it worth $999?

Although the report doesn't phone call the device a member of the Echo Show family unit, that would seem the nearly apt comparison, and in terms of features it sounds like — albeit a bit more customized as a 'hub' for the home.

To that end, it volition reportedly take "a user interface that can show widgets for weather, timers, calendar appointments and photos," but will however include the usual Echo Show functions, such equally streaming videos and showing recipes. "Information technology also could serve as a window in the status of inbound Amazon packages," the report adds.

You lot can probably expect to run across more display-based Echos in future, every bit Bloomberg claims that the visitor "has found that customers engage more with devices that have screens than with audio-only devices."

Speaking of screens, a soundbar — codenamed Harmony — will supposedly aim to take advantage of the biggest one in your house: the TV. While at its core it would simply exist a style of boosting your TV'due south sound credentials, as all the all-time soundbars do, information technology would reportedly have a hush-hush weapon: a congenital-in microphone and webcam, assuasive you to brand video calls through your Idiot box, similar to Facebook's Portal TV.

If Bloomberg's report proves to be truthful, and if this soundbar reaches the market, there's a good chance it could be a big hitting, peculiarly if social distancing and remote work continues to play a major part in our lives.

There'due south besides apparently a second generation of Echo Auto in the works. While we were somewhat underwhelmed by the get-go version, every bit our Echo Car review makes clear, the 2nd generation will supposedly include a new design and allow for charging of devices via inductive engineering science.

The Bloomberg report is dubious every bit to whether we'll run across "major updates" to the Repeat and Repeat Dot this year, with a 2022 push seen as more than likely. Simply exterior of Alexa-based devices, the visitor is manifestly also looking to build on its Halo fettle tracker with ane aimed at children, and another aimed at older customers — the latter with fall detection, similar to the Apple Watch 7.

The report too casts a light on Amazon products that have been axed or are likely to be. Information technology claims there was an Alexa-powered karaoke microphone with the codename Jackson which has apparently been shelved, while the Alexa robot codenamed Vesta also seems doubtful, despite having been in the works for years. According to the report, members of staff including founder and chairman Jeff Bezos have expressed doubts about its viability, and information technology'southward not difficult to see why.

A current epitome is said to be merely a 7-inch screen on wheels that follows the owner effectually the firm reminding them of calendar appointments. And while the computer vision tech is obviously "constructive," it "lacks arms and can't use stairs." Combine that with the belief that early versions could cost every bit much as $1,000, and you tin run into why the company may meet this as far from a certain thing.

Amazon really has an event this week where some of these devices may get an ambulation. Although the consequence won't be streamed to the public, nosotros'll cover all the products as and when they're announced, so be sure to check back on Tuesday to hear about some of the new products you'll be calculation to your wishlist in time for Black Friday.
